About AAPS Online Learning

What does AAPS offer online?

AAPS Online learning is comprised of certificate courses and diploma programs that are filled with practical training. Our curriculums are designed to challenge you to apply what you’ve learned to the real world.


Self-Paced Learning: With AAPS Online learning, students can enjoy a web-based, interactive learning experience that allows you to access study materials online anytime. It’s the ideal choice for students who prefer a more engaging, computer-based learning environment and who cannot attend traditional classes.

Why should I take online courses?

If you are interested in improving and advancing your career but are unable to attend classes due to your location, obligations with work, family responsibilities or other reasons, then online learning is the perfect fit for you.


What are the prerequisites for Online Programs? Online Certificate Courses?

Programs: The academic prerequisites for our online programs are the same as the prerequisites for in-class program. The prerequisites can be found within each program page.


Certificates Courses: In general, there no prerequisites for online certificate courses. We welcome learners from all levels and experiences, so learners may choose to start with any course. We do have recommended prerequisites for each course.

What are the technical requirements for online or live-virtual learning?

A computer or mobile device with audio and internet access is required. The ability to view various document formats including PDF, Word and PowerPoint files is also required. We recommend using Google Chrome as the default browser for online learning with AAPS.


What support do I receive as an online student? What if I have questions during my course?

Academic: Our self-paced online courses are designed to be self-study. However, should you have any questions, contact onlinelearning@aaps.ca and our coordinator will connect you to our subject matter expert.


Technical: You can reach our support team at onlinelearning@aaps.ca Mon-Fri between 9am-5pm EST at 416-502-2277.


Are the certifications/diplomas different for online students than for in-class students?

There is no difference. All of our online and in-class programs are approved by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The requirements for each certificate or diploma are the same for both online and in-class programs.


What are the admission deadlines to enroll in an online program or course?

Certificate: There are no admission deadlines to enrol in an online certificate courses. You can start any time by clicking on the REGISTER ONLINE button on each course information page.


Diploma: For online diploma or certificate programs, you can find the start dates on the calendar. The deadline is 2 weeks prior to the start of any term.


How do I receive my certificate/diploma?

Certificate: After successful completion of each course, you will be able to download the online certificate (PDF) from your BrightSpace Account.


Diploma: After successfully completing all courses within a diploma program, our online learning coordinator will contact you to arrange for an in-person pick up or delivery of your diploma.


What system is used for online learning? How is course material provided for online learning?

AAPS Online uses a combination of BrightSpace learning platform with Storyline 360, videos and PowerPoint to present class material. Most material is also provided as downloadable and printable PDFs.


How are we assessed for online courses?

Online courses use a combination of quizzes and exams, and project work which are submitted via our online training platform – BrightSpace. Questions may be in the format of multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blanks, short answers. Each course is unique and utilizes the best assessment tools for that material.


How do I register for any course or program?

Certificate: On the page of any given certificate online course, fill in the form with your full name, email address, phone number and check off on ‘Agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use for AAPS Online learning’. Once the form is filled, you can click on REGISTER ONLINE to pay for the course.


After payment is authorized, a link to the course, along with your log-in information, will be sent to you via email from our Online Learning team. The access for each course will be restricted after 4 weeks.


Diploma: The registration process for diploma programs can be found here. Upon receiving the enrollment form and all documents required for registration, our online coordinator will contact you to complete the registration process.


How long do I have to complete an online certificate course? Can I take multiple courses simultaneously?

Certificate courses are self-paced, but must be completed within 6 weeks of the date of enrollment. This includes completion of all assessments. Learners may choose to take multiple courses simultaneously.


What are the start and end dates for diploma programs?

Please see the online calendar for start and end date to the programs including individual term breakdown.


How many terms will it take to complete my program? How many courses per term?

Please see the online term table for the breakdown of each term for all online programs.


Am I allowed to take breaks in between?

Self-funded Students
You may take term(s) off at any time. Please note, once you have started a term, you must complete the modules assigned to you during that term. If you need to take a break from your studies in the middle of the term due to unforeseen circumstances, you have to consult with an AAPS Online administrator for options.


Students on government financial assistance
You are required to strictly adhere to the start and end date specified on your financial aid application and as such you are not able to take any unscheduled break. You might be able to take more modules in a given term and have a lighter course load in the subsequent terms. Please contact us at 416-502-2277 or onlinelearning@aaps.ca.


Can I work while studying full-time?

Yes – our online program are designed specifically for individuals with busy lives with work and family commitments. The self-pace stream allows learners to manage their own time to balance work, life and studies.


Learners have full control to dedicate weekdays, weeknights or weekends to their studies.


For full-time studies, how many hours do I need to dedicate per day? Per week?

For full-time studies, learners can expect to spend about 20 hours per week towards their studies. For the full schedule of each program, refer to the online term table.


Is financial assistance available for online studies?

Individual Certificate Courses: Government financial aid is not available for individual online certificate courses. Please contact onlinelearning@aaps.ca if you need to discuss payment options.


Certificate or Diploma Programs: Online certificate or diploma programs are eligible for financial assistance from federal and provincial aids. For more information, please contact us at onlinelearning@aaps.ca.


Is a payment plan available? Or do I need to pay in full before starting the program?

Yes – we offer a flexible payment schedule for all online diploma students. Contact us at onlinelearning@aaps.ca to find out more about payment plans with AAPS.


What if laboratory courses are part of my online program? How do I complete a laboratory course virtually?

Some of our programs do have a laboratory component. All laboratory courses must be completed in the laboratory at our Toronto campus. If your program contains laboratory classes, you can complete the non-laboratory courses online, and complete the laboratory courses in-class.
