Regulatory Affairs for Natural Health Products

This course is designed to help you understand the Canadian regulatory and compliance requirements for Natural Health Products.

Under the Natural Health Products Regulations, which came into effect on January 1, 2004, natural health products (NHPs) are defined as Vitamins and minerals, Herbal remedies, Homeopathic medicines, Traditional medicines such as traditional Chinese medicines, Probiotics, and other products like amino acids and essential fatty acids. NHPs must be safe to use as over-the-counter products and not need a prescription to be sold. Products needing a prescription are regulated as drugs under the Food and Drug Regulations and are classifies as compendial, non compendial, traditional or nontraditional. This course will discuss all of the types of NHP products in addition to requirements for obtaining NPN number from Health Canada for selling these products on the market.

This course is intended primarily for students wishing to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry, in Regulatory Affairs Departments.
