Program Overview


The purpose of the program is to prepare students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry-level and mid-level positions in cannabis production facilities, cannabis testing laboratories, medical cannabis clinics as well as cannabis retail stores.

This program provides an overview of the regulations, quality assurance principles, as well as cultivation, laboratory, and extraction techniques currently being applied in the cannabis industry. Areas of study include: developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), conducting analytical testing for THC and CBD, owning and operating a cannabis retail store, utilizing seed-to-sale tracking software, understanding the pharmacological mechanisms of cannabis, and developing a comprehensive understanding of compliance in relation to the production and distribution of medical and recreational cannabis. In addition, the course covers key areas related to the development of edible cannabis products including creating a Preventative Control Plan (PCP) and following HACCP. Graduates will be prepared to work in a number of different roles in the burgeoning cannabis industry.

Graduates should find employment opportunities in cannabis production facilities and other environments such as cannabis testing laboratories, extraction laboratories, edible processing facilities, and cannabis retail stores.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Cannabis – Management, Quality and Edibles Diploma program may work for Licensed Producers of medical and recreational cannabis, within cannabis extraction and testing laboratories, companies producing and developing edible cannabis products and retail stores or clinics selling and distributing medical or recreational cannabis. Employment of cannabis professionals is expected to increase due to the unprecedented growth of the industry here in Canada and around the world, which will inevitably spur demand for qualified and trained professionals that understand the intricacies of this nascent industry. Note: Some career and education options may require advanced degrees, further training or experience.

Certifications

Graduates will receive a Diploma or Post-Graduate Diploma on Cannabis – Management, Quality and Edibles. This program is approved as a vocational program under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. The Private Career Colleges Branch is part of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities and the Superintendent of Private Career Colleges is an appointed position by the Minister of Colleges and Universities.
